Bias Buster

Inspiration

Our primary inspiration comes from modern Ai tools, such as Ai detectors. Our group wanted to create a society/internet without false information. Our group discovered a statistic, in which around 40 percent of information across social media is false. Upon further research, we realized that if so much information around the internet is false, then many people could end up being harmed. Our group strongly belived that by having a society with only true information, everyone could remain safe along with everyone learning new things every day,

What it does

Our tool looks for bias in text, and offers possible alternatives. For example, if someone were to enter text into our bias detector, we would go through the text looking for bias. Once bias is found, then our tool will offer other words that remove the bias from the text. This ensures that the spread of false informatoin won't happen again.

How we built it

We built this through the language of Python, as we had an array with a lot of words that serve as alternatives for words that are actually bias. Then, once the person pastes text into the the input, our tool will look through the entire text making sure that there is no bias. If there is no bias in the text, then nothing will happen. However, if there is text then our code will replace the bias with other suggested words.

Challenges we ran into

A primary challenge that we faced was using a coding language that none of us had used before. Specifically, we wanted to use Java as our primary langauge, but we eventually realized that it wouldn't work out. We then had to switch to python, a language that none of us had ever used before. This pushed all of us outside of our comfort zone, as we had to learn a lot of new things to make our idea come to a reality. During the process of coding, we came through several errors that frustrated us, but we eventually pushed through to make our dream a reality.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our group is proud of how far we actually managed to come, as we never thought that our idea could actually work. We are proud of actually creating a fully functional project that can be something very helpful to society.

What we learned

Our group learned a lot, as we learned how to code in Python, spending an excessive amount of time thoroughly understanding everything. Not only did we learn about coding, but we learned more about ourselves as we discovered our passion for coding.

What's next for Bias Buster

Our plan for Bias Buster in the future is to expand it to greater lengths, as we want to make it something that people can use in their everyday lives. Our ultimate dream is to make Bias Buster something that can have a clear and visible impact on the modern society we live in today.
