🌍 Bhushuraksha AI — Protecting Land, Crops & Communities 🚀 Inspiration India loses thousands of crores every year due to crop failures, floods, droughts, and also from illegal land encroachments and unplanned construction. We wanted to build a single AI platform that protects our land (Bhu), our crops (Krishi), and our communities (Suraksha) using AI + Satellite Data.
🤖 What it does 🌦 Disaster & Weather Alerts → Early warnings for flood, drought, and extreme weather using IMD + Sentinel data. 🌱 Crop Health & Disease Detection → Farmers upload leaf photo → AI detects crop diseases and gives remedies. 🌾 Soil & Yield Estimation → Uses Sentinel-2 NDVI to estimate crop productivity and soil health. 🏛 Govt Scheme Recommender → AI chatbot that tells farmers which subsidies, crop insurance, or rural schemes apply to them. 🏗️ Illegal Construction Detection → Monitors satellite imagery to detect unauthorized land use, encroachments, or deforestation. 🛰 Change Detection → Compares past vs. present Sentinel imagery to detect illegal mining, forest clearance, river sand mining. 📢 Farmer & Citizen-Friendly → Multilingual app, SMS/IVR alerts for those without smartphones.
🛠 How we built it Languages/Frameworks: Python, Flask, Streamlit AI/ML: PyTorch (Siamese-UNet), Scikit-learn (Isolation Forest), OpenCV Geospatial Processing: Rasterio, GeoPandas, GDAL Visualization: Folium, Leaflet.js, Bootstrap APIs: BhuNaksha (REST), SentinelHub Deployment: Docker, GitHub Actions (CI/CD)
Frontend → html,css,java Backend → Flask + mongoDb + Google Cloud Run.
AI/ML Models → Crop Disease CNN trained on PlantVillage & ICAR datasets. NDVI & Vegetation Change from Sentinel-2 for crop growth + illegal construction/deforestation. Time-series model for rainfall/drought prediction. Cloud Infra → Google Cloud (Vertex AI, Firestore DB, Cloud Storage). Data Sources → ESA Sentinel-2, IMD, ISRO Bhuvan, OpenStreetMap.
⚡ Challenges we ran into Processing large satellite imagery in real time with limited compute. Getting ground-truth data for illegal construction detection. Designing a simple farmer-friendly UI while handling complex AI. Building multilingual voice-first features for low-literacy users.
🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of Built a multi-domain MVP that works for farmers and civic monitoring. Integrated AI disease detection + illegal construction alerts from satellite data. Designed a local-language app prototype that was tested with real farmers & mentors. Validated with NGOs + hackathon judges that this can scale to lakhs of users.
📚 What we learned AI is powerful, but local validation (farmers, govt departments, NGOs) is crucial. Combining agriculture + civic monitoring increases impact massively. Rural adoption needs trust + language + offline modes, not just fancy AI.
🔮 What’s next for Bhushuraksha AI Expand illegal construction & deforestation monitoring in collaboration with State Land Records & Forest Dept. Add market price predictions to help farmers sell crops at the right time. Launch pilot with 10,000 farmers & 2 municipal corporations. Build WhatsApp + IVR bot for citizens without smartphones. Eventually → become a National Rural & Land Safety AI Platform serving 1 crore+ pe
