Inspiration Bhumisuraksha was inspired by the increasing frequency and impact of natural disasters worldwide. Seeing how communities often struggle with late warnings, lack of preparedness, and limited post-disaster resources motivated me to create an app that addresses these gaps. My vision was to empower users with timely information and tools to stay safe and resilient before, during, and after disasters.

What it does Throughout this project, I gained valuable insights into: User-Centered Design: Creating accessible, intuitive interfaces for users in high-stress scenarios. Real-Time Functionality: Implementing location-based alerts and dynamic updates to ensure relevance. Emergency Protocols: Understanding disaster preparedness guidelines and translating them into actionable steps for users.

How I Built the Project Prototyping: Designed the user interface in Figma, focusing on clean, organized layouts and ease of navigation. Core features include Real-Time Alerts, Emergency Plans, Check-In Features, and Post-Disaster Resources. Development: Integrated APIs for real-time weather and disaster data. Used location tracking to provide targeted alerts and nearby resources. Ensured offline functionality for emergency plans and saved data. Testing: Conducted user testing to refine the design and improve the user experience. Gathered feedback on accessibility, readability, and feature usability.

Challenges Faced Real-Time Alerts: Ensuring accurate and timely notifications required handling complex data integrations and testing for reliability. Accessibility: Designing for diverse users, including those with limited tech proficiency, required extra attention to detail and iterative feedback. Offline Functionality: Developing features that work without an internet connection posed technical hurdles but was crucial for usability in emergencies.
