Inspiration

We each asked ourselves what program we wished we had as college students which would make our lives easier. A running theme presented itself through The ZADs; combining apps into one place so we wouldn't have to travel between platforms as much. Thus, BHSO was born!

What it does

BHSO, which stands for Bee Hive School Organizer, is a website that regroups various websites and applications onto one page as a honeycomb. This interactive and fun configuration invites students to feel more at ease, focused, and efficient.

How we built it

We opted with HTML and CSS as means to create our program because all three of us are beginner programmers and aren't quite versed in many languages aside from Python. With the support of mentors, the wisdom of stack exchange, Google, and AI, we were able to code a program that runs smoothly and is easily readable.

Challenges we ran into

Initially, our team wanted to use Python as our coding language but we ran into a few problems when it came to combining it with CSS, the language that one of our programmer had chosen for the graphics. Also, when designing the interface of the program, we discovered just how difficult making each app icon into hexagons was going to be. Instead, we opted for rounded rectangles and a honeycomb arrangement.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

As a team, we are proud of our perseverance and resourcefulness because we never gave up and kept pushing ourselves through all of the bugs, incorrect file sizes, disagreements, and disappointments. We are extremely proud of the code that our main programmer came up with because of how hard she worked on it.

What we learned

We learned the importance of communication and organization when it came to making our ideas come to life. Whether that be making detailed to do lists to track our progress or dividing tasks in a way that would capitalize on our strengths, it truly help us have a finished product that we are proud of.

What's next for BHSO (Bee Hive School Organizer)

We hope to add more features to the websites such as adding your own links to the platform, having the options to see the number of notifications coming from each application, and customizing the color palette or even the shape of the icons.
