Inspiration

While visiting my grandparents at Sindanoor, I saw how they were reliant on chemical fertilizers. This reduced the health of the soil and even decreased their crop yield. It was then found out that this issue occurs to over 90% of farmers globally, who rely on energy-intensive fertilisers, thus creating environmental and economic problems. Bhoomi was inspired by the requirement of a productive and healthy solution. What it does Bhoomi analytically measures manure using a pH sensor to report nutrient composition. Precise fertilizer recommendation based on crop, coupled with optimal management of nutrients. The app streamlines decisions and reduces reliance on chemicals and toxicity while providing an environmental-friendly approach to farming.

How we built it

we used an esp 32 with inbuilt iot and bluethooth and a ph sensor instead of the conventional NPK sensors that is unaffordable to the rural farmers and the arduino iot app to display the data and give fertilliser recommendations to the farmers

Challenges we ran into

Cost Concerns: designing affordable to small scale farmers. Farmer Flexibility: The technical knowledge gap for farmers who have never used digital applications. . Nutrient Diversity: The nutrient pH levels sometimes overlap and can't be considered different.

Achievements that we are proud of .

won 3rd place for this idea in the IEEE repower competition we come up with a low-cost, easy-to-use solution for farmers. Crossed over the barrier between organic and chemical farming, enabling a sustainable model. Designed a system that generally minimizes fertiliser overuse, thus promoting environmental health.

What we learned

How great to understand farmers' needs and the value of simple intuitive design in increasing adoption. The crucial role of data-driven solution towards sustainable agriculture. How innovation can be an effective solution, both on the environmental and economic challenges.

What's next for BHOOMI

Integrating advanced sensors like ion-selective electrodes to enhance nutrient detection accuracy. Partnering with agricultural cooperatives and government programs to reach more farmers. Expanding to include features for water conservation and pest management.
