Inspiration
I wanted to make it effortless for developers to add striking, ready‑to‑use CSS backgrounds to their websites. I noticed how much time is often spent crafting custom backgrounds, and I envisioned a tool that streamlines that process—letting anyone pick, preview, and copy beautiful designs instantly
What it does
This project allows users to browse and interact with a collection of unique CSS background designs. Users can instantly preview any background on the page and copy the exact CSS snippet to use in their own projects.
How we built it
This project was built entirely using a one-shot prompt on Bolt.new. The prompt clearly explained every necessary detail—from the hero section and navbar to the preview area, background grid, and copy feedback toast—all in a single instruction set
Challenges we faced
One of the main challenges was ensuring that the one-shot prompt was interpreted correctly by Bolt.new. Sometimes, even with clear instructions, Bolt would miss key elements—like skipping the preview button or misplacing the layout structure. Other times, the generated UI didn’t match the intended design Writing a single, detailed prompt that balances clarity, completeness, and design intent was a challenging yet valuable learning experience.
What we learned
How to write ultra‑precise, one‑shot prompts that define layout, styling variants, and interactivity in human‑readable language.
What's next for BG Snippet
In the future, BG Snippet aims to add a search and filter bar, allowing users to quickly find backgrounds by style or keyword. Categories and tags such as gradients, patterns, and meshes will help organize the backgrounds for easier browsing. A submission system for user-generated backgrounds is planned, complete with moderation and voting features. Finally, a dark-mode toggle will be introduced to allow users to switch the app’s UI between light and dark themes
