Inspiration
Climate affects nearly every aspect of our lives, from our food sources to our transport infrastructure, from what clothes we wear, to where we go on holiday. It has a huge effect on our livelihoods, our health, and our future. Climate is the long-term pattern of weather conditions in any particular place. We know that our climate is changing due to humans, and these changes are already having a big impact on our lives. It’s important that we understand how the climate is changing so that we can prepare for the future.
What it does
Our website raises awareness about climate change by showing our users some statistical data of how our planet was affected by global warming and what are the according consequences that are expected to happen in the future because of the issue, moreover, it helps people take action by pointing them to sign some petitions and subscribe in some services that will keep them updated on the issue.
How we built it
Our website is a static website that consists of two pages, one contains info about global warming and the other helps visitors to take action by signing some petitions. We used HTML/CSS/js to build our website and make it user-friendly and interactive.
Challenges we ran into
There is not one specific challenge that stood out, it was the overall process. Our website has many hidden features that if not coded right, might mess up the whole page. For instance one of them was adjusting the website elements and overall appearance based on the user's screen.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to create a fully functioning website and incorporate all of the features we wanted in just 2 days.
What we learned
Celebrate our small victories. This is big. Many times our heads were down, Googling, trying new code, or trying to learn new commands for the millionth time but when that one line of code just magically works….it’s important to just celebrate. It’s really confirmation that we CAN do this!!!
What's next for Beyond the Horizon!
We are planning to connect our website to some API services that show users live data and historical data of climate change and wildlife or ecological changes according to their location for them to see the changes that has happened over the years to help them see the effects of global warming on them.
