About the Project

“Beyond the Door of Light” is a fantasy short animation created entirely with generative AI tools.
It tells the story of Ria, a young girl who makes her living as a “fixer” on the ground, as she embarks on a journey beyond the clouds to uncover the legendary Door of Light said to rest among countless floating isles.

Inspiration

The project began with the simple idea of creating a story about one girl and her fantasy adventure.
It was deeply inspired by the atmosphere and worldbuilding of the anime works I’ve admired and grown up with.
Themes such as longing for the unknown and chasing the light became central motifs, reflecting the imagination that drives people to explore beyond what they see.

Creation Process

The animation was primarily built using Kling AI, with keyframe visuals and reference designs created through Seedream and Midjourney.
For the music, I collaborated with the AI music creator naoon to compose a soundtrack that reflects the film’s world and emotional flow.
Editing was focused on synchronizing movement and sound, allowing the visuals and music to breathe together as one.

Sound effects and ambient audio were also designed using AI tools.
Every detail—from Ria’s mechanical gestures to the flicker of thunderlight—was fine-tuned to create a sense of rhythm and immersion within the world.

Challenges

• Maintaining consistent character design while unifying the tone of a fantastical world.
  
• Perfectly synchronizing visuals, BGM, and sound effects to deepen emotional immersion.
  

Balancing these elements was one of the greatest challenges of this production.

Learning

Through this project, I learned that by combining human creativity with AI-generated imagery and music—and then refining them through hands-on editing—we can craft a deeper sense of immersion and emotional storytelling.
This process showed me that AI is not a replacement for human imagination, but a creative partner that expands the boundaries of what animation can be.
