Inspiration
Our inspiration stemmed from technica's theme this year, as well as each of our desires to promote diversity and inclusion in the tech field. We have seen first-hand what it's like to be part of the tech field as minorities, and want to offer our support to others in similar situations by giving them resources that we think would have helped us. We think everyone should have the opportunity to succeed in CS, whether they are part of a minority group or do not have the funds.
What it does
Our website showcases different paths individuals can take in CS, as well as the requirements to do so. We aim to educate individuals about the different fields in CS so that they can see what calls to them. Our website also informs individuals of free resources that can help them thrive in CS.
How we built it
We built our website using HTML and CSS on replit. We started with brainstorming our layout and completed our wireframe. We also did lots of research so that we could offer the best resources and information about each field. Then together, we delegated tasks and began building our website.
Challenges we ran into
Some challenges we ran into was formatting the website to look neat, as well as understanding how to use HTML and CSS. Some members on our team were experienced with the languages while others were not. However, we all learned and grew together as we solved different obstacles we came across.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Some accomplishments we are proud of is linking different pages to our website, as well as the creation of our navigation bar. We are also really proud of the logo for our website, which a team member designed.
What we learned
We learned many new skills in HTML and CSS, such as importing new fonts through font face, creating a copy of our nav bar so we could edit just one, and much more. While doing our research, we also learned of new resources that can help further our CS skills.
What's next for Beyond Binary Visions
We would love to expand our resources on our diversity tab so that it can include more unique resources and help more individuals. We also want to expand the different fields of CS you can go into and be more informative because the field is large with many opportunities.
