Inspiration
Education is what provides people the ability to achieve their personal dreams. But with the age of tech, the latin root definiton of education, being educare, which means to nuture and to grow, becomes ever more prevelant. It's to reimagine the tools that support our youth development.
Every day, students use AI for homework, research, and creative work — with no ethical frameworks, no critical thinking scaffolding, and no adult guidance. Teachers spend hours on administrative tasks instead of student connection. And talented young professionals in every community want to give back to local schools but have no structured way to do it.
BeVerse SAFE Connect was built to solve all three problems simultaneously. As a registered nonprofit founded in Charlotte, NC, BeVerse developed the SAFE Framework — Social Awareness, Accountability, Factual Reasoning, and Empathy — to prepare youth ages 13–22 to engage with AI and information ethically. This hackathon was the forcing function to put that framework into a live, working tool.
What it does
BeVerse SAFE Connect is a dual-audience education platform:
Teacher for a Day — Volunteer Portal Community volunteers (young professionals, college students, community leaders) complete a structured profile: background, teaching topics, subject area, grade preference, and a short bio. MeDo's AI instantly generates a complete volunteer card — a polished class pitch, a 3-part lesson outline specific to their subject area, a SAFE Framework connection identifying which ethical principles their session reinforces, and a personal teaching commitment statement. The card is shareable directly with schools.
SAFE Teacher Toolkit — Four AI-powered tools
- Lesson Brief + SAFE Rubric Generator: Input a topic, subject, grade, and time. Get a complete lesson brief with learning objectives, a timed activity outline, discussion questions, and a ready-to-use 4-dimension SAFE rubric with behavioral descriptors at Beginning, Developing, Proficient, and Advanced levels.
- SAFE Reflection Prompt Builder: Describe a classroom situation, select SAFE dimensions. Get developmentally adapted student reflection questions across three cognitive tiers: Tier 1 (grades 6–8, concrete), Tier 2 (grades 9–12, analytical), Tier 3 (college, systems-level).
- Parent Communication Assistant: Describe a situation. Get a professionally drafted parent email with empathetic, SAFE-modeled language and a clear next step.
- SAFE Checklist Builder: Input an assignment. Get a student self-assessment checklist with observable "I..." behavioral statements for responsible AI use, calibrated to grade level complexity.
The platform also introduces schools to BeSAFE Partner Certification — BeVerse's Bronze, Silver, and Gold recognition program for organizations demonstrating SAFE Framework alignment in policies and practice.
How I built it
Built entirely on MeDo's conversational no-code platform. I described every feature, user flow, AI tool specification, and design requirement in natural language through MeDo's chat interface. MeDo's ERNIE-powered AI generates all dynamic content — lesson briefs, SAFE rubrics, reflection questions, parent emails, and volunteer profiles — in real time. No backend. No database. No traditional code. The entire app was specified, iterated, and deployed through conversation.
Challenges
Scoping ruthlessly in 48 hours solo. The full BeVerse platform has three pillars and dozens of planned features. Distilling it to two user flows and four AI tools required accepting what to leave for the production platform.
Prompt architecture precision. The requirements document MeDo generated from my initial prompt captured the homepage accurately but left the Volunteer Portal, Teacher Toolkit, and Partner sections as empty shells. Expanding each with precise behavioral specifications — exact inputs, output formats, tier-adaptive language rules, rubric anchors — produced dramatically better AI output quality. The key insight: MeDo rewards specificity.
Accomplishments
Shipping a genuinely usable education tool in 48 hours. The SAFE Rubric Generator produces a classroom-ready 4-dimension behavioral rubric that educators spend 30–60 minutes creating manually — MeDo generates it in under 10 seconds. That's the kind of time savings that determines whether a teacher adopts a tool or ignores it entirely.
What I learned
MeDo's conversational interface rewards detailed, structured specification. Break the app into sections. Define AI output formats explicitly. Specify edge cases. The difference between a vague prompt and a precise one is the difference between a placeholder page and a working AI tool.
What's next
BeVerse SAFE Connect is the proof of concept. The production platform — built on React 18, TypeScript, and Supabase — is in active development at beverse.org. Production features include user authentication, persistent volunteer profiles, school-to-volunteer matching, full SAFE progress tracking, and the complete BeSAFE Partner Certification workflow. The hackathon submission demonstrates the framework's power. The production platform will scale it to 1 million youth by 2030.es
