About the Project: Be U
What Inspired Me
As someone living with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), I know firsthand how overwhelming it can be to stay organized, focused, and emotionally steady. I created Be U because I needed a tool that could support me, not just with tasks, but with encouragement, structure, and daily clarity. I realized that if it could help me, it could help others facing the same challenges.
What I Learned
- How to simplify UX for users with cognitive challenges
- How to integrate AI (chatbot) meaningfully, not just technically
- How impactful a clear daily routine can be for mental clarity and confidence
How I Built It
I used Bolt.new to build the entire app in a fast, responsive, and mobile-friendly environment. Key tools and platforms:
- Bolt.new – front-end + logic
- Supabase – backend for data storage (tasks, notes, reminders)
- Custom logic for routines, chatbot (Pingu), and guided paths
The app includes:
- A motivational dashboard
- Smart task manager
- Notes with reminders
- Pre-built “Paths” for specific goals (e.g., morning routine)
- A calming AI assistant (Pingu) to talk to or ask for help
Challenges Compliance
This project complies with the following challenges:
Startup Challenge – Supabase Supabase was used for authentication, storing user reminders, notes, and tracking progress through guided paths.
Deploy Challenge – Netlify The application was deployed using Netlify for quick, stable access and iterative development.
Challenges I Faced
- Balancing simplicity with functionality for users with dementia
- Designing a UI that is both calming and clear
- Structuring the chat system to feel human, helpful, and non-overwhelming
- Overcoming moments of brain fog while coding. I built this while living with FTD, which made it deeply personal but also mentally demanding
