Inspiration

Dementia research moves incredibly fast, but the volume of medical literature is overwhelming for clinicians and researchers trying to find breakthroughs. We wanted to build a modern, lightning-fast, and deep literature research tool that uses advanced AI models to synthesize medical papers, track key findings, and accelerate the quest for dementia treatments.

What it does

Bettr Research Fresh is a next-generation literature analysis platform specialized for dementia research. It ingests complex medical papers, maps clinical trial endpoints, extracts target biomarkers, and presents structured interactive timelines and summaries for researchers in a minimalist, instant-loading interface.

How we built it

The application is built on top of the ultra-fast Deno / Fresh framework, utilizing Preact and Tailwind CSS for instant server-side rendering, zero client-side shipping by default, and highly interactive "islands" to navigate dense visual literature graphs and filter semantic concepts dynamically.

Challenges we ran into

Handling large semantic medical datasets on the fly and creating highly interactive data visualization islands required a deep dive into Preact progressive hydration and robust caching state management.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Achieving near-perfect performance and core web vitals out of the box due to Deno Fresh's progressive hydration.
  • Building a domain-specific research interface that helps dementia researchers find cross-study correlations in seconds instead of weeks.

What we learned

We gained extensive experience working with server-side rendered JSX components using Deno, managing complex reactive states using Fresh islands, and utilizing advanced medical ontology mappings within web runtimes.

What's next for Bettr Research Fresh

We plan to introduce deeper AI-driven citation cross-referencing, automatic PDF digest generation for clinical trials, and collaboration tools for global medical teams.
