Few Notes:

  • This AI email assistant is built for mobile app and I have submitted a testflight version to testing@devpost.com account with name better-email 1.0.6.
  • Landing page is live at this link
  • This app is working fine in the Bolt environment and deployed netlify site. Since supabase auth could only work with one domain, I chose Netlify link.

Inspiration

1) AI credits along with Money 2) I have my own vibecoding tool for mobile app just like Bolt. I spent my savings on the credits and all the MRR as well. I couldn't scale it because people used to ask free trial by comparing my app with VC backed alternative like Bolt and Rork, and to be honest I tried as well for sometime but it didn't yeild any result. So, I again truned back to paid only platform. I would love to win which will help me get this project as well as my previous project going.

What it does

  • It helps you manage your email account in such a way that it reduces your time spent on your email client.
  • create labels and it will auto apply labels to emails. filter with emails
  • prepares daily email digest two times a day (you can configure your own time)
  • conversational interface with chat and voice assistant both to manage your gmail (voice assistant helps while you're at gym, walking, driving)
  • Auto prepare drafts for important emails(follows your style, you can configure in the settings. Will be making this more accurate)
  • summarize email messages or threads
  • filter, search emails, attachment, Bulk email actions.

How I built it

  • At first, I decided the idea. I had two and decided to go with mobile app.
  • then I used existing apps, like superhuman and canary and read online reviews on stores. I decided to build better version of it. Many people were asking voice agent and as we already had elevenlabs I decided to use it.
  • Then I prepared plan and finalised all the features that I was going to build. (still missed revenuecat integration, but gonna add it in the future)
  • I found the design reference which i liked for my app and I started by defining the design system in bolt.
  • Then I created POC in another project to test all the features if it's feasible and to my surpriise it worked in both web and mobile, so my app is UNIVERSAL that works in both WEB and MOBILE.
  • I started with the core features like labelling, fetching emails and its details, asking for permission. then I moved to building AI assistant.
  • Then I deployed my app to testflight and netlify.

Challenges we ran into

  • I started building everything for web at first since I was doing the designing. After completing 60-70%, I decided to check in mobile. It took me 2 days to fix everything and make it work in real device.
  • Then, I was under the impression that everything had to be built in bolt to increase your winning chances and I fell short of tokens and I was not able to upgrade to pro plan. It took me 4 days to get those new tokens after I contacted Eric on twitter. Before I used to ask in community only.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  • I managed to build this while working on my existing product in 20 days. (started at 7th and had 4 days break due to plan not getting upgraded)
  • This is going to be my second product that I will be launching. Managing two products at once feels accomplishments.
  • I got a lot of ideas in this process which I can implement in my own vibe coding app (Bolt alternative for mobile apps)

What I learned

  • I always used to procastinate that I can't run and build multiple projects. But given the money and AI credits issue, I surprised myself that I was able to pull this off.
  • I learned to build apps with voice agents which I really found useful and I'm going to build new apps in the future for sure with it.
  • Having fun, time management between multiple projects

What's next for BetterEmail

  • Going to integrate Gmail workspace as tools like google calendar, docs etc
  • Want to improve daily digest screen but after taking feedbacks
  • Integrate revenue cat integration.
  • Going to launch this in the app store.
