Inspiration

Inspired by VentureLab's challenge to develop a tool that tackles the world's most pressing problems, we created the toolkit to give users insight on their carbon activity and by giving suers tips on how to cut down on their carbon print in a form of savings tips, we are able to benefit both the user and the earth!

What it does

When you upload your bank statement(s) the ai tool delivers an overview of your spending habits in categories and gives tips on saving and cutting down on your carbon print

How we built it

Using streamlit's lightweight framework that compiles python script into web code, we were able to create a web app and push it to github then deploying it on streamlit cloud community which is a free tool that hosts your web app

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge we ran into was using our actual money to test out the OpenAi API due to the lack of a free tier. This problem set us back because we planed to make the entire project with little to no cost at all in order to minimise our carbon footprint during the projects creation as well. We are aware that web features which usually cost money are power intensive thus the need for payment which is why we spent a portion of our development time trying to find a work-around to this problem

We are very proud of finishing the project on time despite setbacks and achieving deployment

We learned various skills such as python web app creation and library/requirement integration

What's next for BetterDecisions.Ai

We aim to continue development on the project adding new features and tools that help and inspire users to reduce their carbon footprint thus tackling the major problem that climate change is on our growing Earth
