Hello jury from this hackathon! Thank you for taking your time to see and judge my application. My name is Anastaciya Migal, I’m currently a Java Developer that started its career in 2019, with non-traditional studies because I don’t have a diploma. Also, English is my second language, and I’m still learning it, so if I made English mistakes in this text or in the demo app, please consider that.
I wanted to help patients and medical staff get through the COVID-19 epidemic. I saw that most of solutions and ideas are provided directly against COVID-19. But there is not a lot of solutions that provides a response to help the mental side effects of the epidemic. Therefore, my solution has the purpose to provide joy and a better day for all user through this massive epidemic.
The application is very simple to use. It’s a prototype, that can be considered as well as an MVP, because it contains all main content for this simple application. But in the future, and outside this hackathon, I will maintain this application and improve it. I have a lot more ideas in my head! The user must open the application and watch a new video each day!
It was developed on Android Studio in Kotlin programming language using the custom YouTube API provided by this link: https://github.com/PierfrancescoSoffritti/android-youtube-player
The user must install the application on Android and click on it like any other application. Now, the application is fully usable and contains all the content in the same page! The activity of the day is shown, and a video related to the activity is played automatically. The user can rotate his/her phone or tablet to see the video in wide format. The user can come back the next day and see a new activity displayed. But, if he doesn’t like the activity of the day, he can skip it and find a new one by closing and reopening the application.
I faced some challenges through this project. For example, deadlines. I had 2 weeks to do this project. But I work full time, and I have many other things to do. So, I didn't spend a good amount of time, like I would have liked. Then, I spent a lot of time to provide YouTube API on this project. My final solution was the API from https://github.com/PierfrancescoSoffritti/android-youtube-player that helped me put YouTube content on the app. I would have preferred using the true YouTube API from YouTube, but it contained restrictions that I could not satisfy for this 2-week project, including publishing the app on the Google Store (that takes about 3 weeks).
This product can be easily used in the market by uploading the application on Google Store. The process takes about 3 weeks and is easy as the application is!
Warning: As the application is not registrated into Google Store, it's normal to see a security warning from the Google Store. Click that you want to open it and that's it.
