Inspiration
We decided to make VR les clunky after our friend bought a Vive, but felt sick moving around
What it does
It uses the gyroscope inside of nintendo joycons to track foot movement and register them as steps in UnrealEngine
How we built it
We used a custom driver from the internet to read the joycon data, and then made models in Blender for Unreal, set up the head set, and programmed the controls for the foot tracking algorithm
Challenges we ran into
At first the joycons didn't send data in a uniform way, but we devised an algorithm which counter-acts this
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We actually also added a feature that allows one to jump
What we learned
We learned that it takes a lot of team work to put together a game like this
What's next for Better VR Movement
Another good idea for improved vr movement is better hand controls
Built With
- blender
- switch
- unreal-engine
- vive
