Inspiration
As roommates, we often find ourselves sharing our challenges and supporting one another so we were inspired to choreograph a music video demonstrating friendship to the soundtrack of Better Together by Jack Johnson. We were inspired to personify our cars as the ultrasonic sensor on this robotic kit naturally functions as the "eyes" of each car.
What it does
We created a music video to tell the story of how Carson and Bella met.
How we built it
We customized each robot using 3d printed accessories. Using the Elegoo BLE App, we each were able to choreograph our robot's movements to the music of Jack Johnson's Better Together, using the servo motor to create head movements. We had to adjust the speed of travel, rotation, and timing to ensure that they did not run into each other, looked in the right direction, as well as enter and exit the frame according to the music.
Challenges we ran into
We found that as the battery life decreased, the timing of the program began to change. We adjusted the parameters accordingly in order to achieve our final video.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Creating custom bow ties and glasses to fit the "eyes" using Solidworks and an Ender 3.
- Getting Carson and Bella to gaze into each other's "eyes" when they finally meet.
- Synchronizing their spin rate when they meet each other.
- Editing the video.
What we learned
- We learned to program using loops and establish delays to program the movements of each car.
- We learned to adjust the timing and speed to achieve the distance.
What's next for Better Together
For our next music video, we will work to build in more synchronization. It would be nice if we could program the cars to achieve the same rotations and speed for a longer period of time.
