beSustainable

Inspiration

We were inspired by duolingo because some of us used to use duolingo a lot, so we decided to make something similar but to support the enviroment!

What it does

BeSustainable is a duolingo style daily task website, where instead of doing daily language lessons, you do tasks that help the environment!

How we built it

We built it using Next.js and Firebase for auth and database.

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was setting up Firebase Authentication, because our website was initially using client side rendering only, but Firebase Auth needed Server Side Rendering(SSR)

Accomplishments that we're proud of

This was our first full next.js website.

What we learned

We learned how to use firebase in a website, as I've previously only used it on apps.

What's next for beSustainable

In the future we plan to add a leaderboard to compete against others, as well as a shop to buy things like streak freezes. The profits from the shop could go to charities and organizations.
