Inspiration

In the whirlwind of college life, where the pressure to excel academically, financially, and socially can feel suffocating, mental health struggles are alarmingly common. To deal with the serious depression and anxiety problem among college students, we've developed an innovative solution: BESTIE.

What it does

BESTIE goes beyond the typical productivity app, serving as a vital support system. Through its user-friendly chat interface, this AI-powered chatbot acts as a trusted companion, offering emotional support, organizational assistance, and motivational encouragement all in one. It not only helps you manage tasks efficiently by extracting and tracking them, but also provides timely reminders for approaching deadlines. Moreover, amidst the chaos of college life, BESTIE is there to lift your spirits and provide a source of positivity

How we built it

We developed the mobile application by using Reflex. To incorporate the Gemini-1.5 Pro for the intelligent conversational chatbot, we tested on Intel Developer Cloud (IDC). In addition, we used Figma for UX/UI design.

Challenges we ran into

For all of us, this was our first hackathon, so the thing that was hardest for us was time management, as we're not used to developing a complete application in a weekend. Therefore, we were unable to completely finish developing the front-end and back-end. Also, integrating all the components together was difficult and we did not have enough time to fully flesh out all the features of the app.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud that we implemented technologies that we never touched before in any way. For all of us, this is our first hackathon, and we're all relatively inexperienced in coding, so being able to pick up frameworks, Reflex, and AI models, Gemini, within 3 days make us very proud of ourselves.

What we learned

We learned many new technologies that we will further research on our own after the hackathon. In our project, we used Reflex and Gemini, but we want to build more using these applications to explore their possibilities more.

What's next for BESTIE

After the hackathon, we were planning to meet online to further develop the app to flesh out the functionalities and learn more about Reflex and Gemini.
