VetChat is an open platform for veterans to reach out to those who most identify with them: other veterans. 20 veterans commit suicide every day in the United States, and we wanted to provide them a safe place to support each other. VetChat allows anonymous texting, so there is no pressure and virtually no barrier to entry. If mentor, or Buddy, and a veteran establish a good relationship, they can choose to use our forums or direct messages or speak on the phone or via social media. Beyond just improvement of mental health, the ultimate goal is that someone who had sought help becomes confident and is compelled to become a Buddy themselves, offering their support to others in need.
This idea has so much room to grow, the future offers many opportunities; we'd love partner up with the VA and nonprofit organizations so that we can continue to grow and offer even more resources and support.
