Inspiration

Here at Sonnar we make it our mission to explore potentials for audio to enhance human lives. Natural white noise has consistently been consumed on different platforms by users to reduce anxiety, increase productivity, and enhance deep sleep. We want to build on these outcomes and build a more accessible experience for users on smart speakers.

What it does

The skill provides nine varied, high quality rain ambience sounds to match the moods and needs of listeners. Users just has to select, tune in, and sit back to enjoy the sound of rain fall right where they are.

How we built it

We used highest quality field recordings - all sounds are at least 1 hour long and were prepared in a way that they can loop seamlessly for unlimited time. Current bit rate is 192kbs in stereo!

Challenges we ran into

Obtaining the highest quality ambience sounds. Implementation of ISP - for some reasons, for some time API stopped working. Forcing our Alexa accounts to work in US region was very tricky - had to change Kindle store region settings. Translations and testing in other languages (German, Spanish).

Accomplishments that we are proud of

Voted the best ambience skill by many users. We reached 40.000 unique users a month! Average of 4.5 stars rating.

What we learned

That people love listening to ambience sounds. Using of AWS S3 storage can be very expensive when having a lot of users.

What's next for Best Rain Sounds

If the users will accept ISP we will expand our sounds catalogue with hundreds of recordings!
