Inspiration

The Fashion Scholarship Fund’s goals brought up questions regarding nonprofits’ responsibilities in supporting education and the fashion industry that we had not considered in depth before. As a team valuing learning, we wanted to better understand accessibility and how students are impacted by the lack of resources. We were inspired to deliver a solution that could help fashion education become more inclusive regardless of background and experience.

What it does

We aim for our program to help students create stronger long-lasting connections with Fashion Scholarship Fund alumni. We believe that by creating a messenger type system, students will be able to better understand experiences of alumni which will help them discover their areas of interest more deeply. By creating the extension tab “Ongoing Opportunities” we want to make the interface of the FSF website more user friendly and easy to use. That tab has all scholarships that are currently available for application along with their deadlines. This feature makes it easier to navigate through the website, encouraging students to apply. Our marketing strategies mainly focus on social media engagement: making posts on Instagram that are more eye-catching, informative, and follow a template to be consistent; pinning posts with important and relevant information for ambassadors and partners; making trendy videos that can gain popularity due to their appeal to a younger generation.

How we built it

Through cooperation and deputizing we designed an extension of the Fashion Scholarship Fund. We first started with the layout of the website through Figma in order to specifically customize to our needs. Then we incorporated Canva in order to not only garner creative design notions and inspirations but also to build our pitch through a presentation. Codepen and Html were used to craft an example base code of how the home page along with how the other pages will be ciphered. Lastly, through Avatar Maker we were able to personalize a prototype avatar that users can further customize to their own preferences.

Challenges we ran into

We struggled with brainstorming both realistic and creative solutions in a limited amount of time. Moreover, coming up with ideas to improve an already well thought out website, organized layout was one of the biggest challenges we encountered.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The biggest accomplishment was executing our initial ideas and successfully completing our first hackathon. We are very proud of the TikTok meme video that we have created to help advertise FSF in a funny and playful way. Making that video was also a very enjoyable activity.

What we learned

We learned more about the stages of working together on a group project, and we challenged ourselves by thinking from both organization and user perspectives. In doing so, even within a short period of time we innovated a design that could potentially help younger communities obtain higher education.

What's next for Best Fit

We hope that Best Fit shows that having centralized and accessible resources may further encourage prospective students to get involved in organizations and apply for scholarships. We aim for Best Fit to bridge the gap between students and alumni, by making connections a simpler process than it seems to be. Possibilities for connections surround us, and are closer than they seem.
