Woofdiculous Unscrambler

Inspiration

We were inspired to create this project because we are dedicated to the animal community. Thousands of animals end up in shelters each year and are not given the care and love they rightfully deserve. In addition, many of these pets struggle to find forever homes due to excessive dog breeding and lack of awareness. At just one of the shelters within this community, there are currently over 100 animals waiting to be adopted. Our site aims to bring a fresh opportunity for the animals at the shelter to be adopted. Pets are able to enrich our lives in so many ways, and we believe that it is essential to remember what a role they play in our community each day.

What it does

Our website features a light-hearted and unique game to bring more traffic to our site, in return, allowing more people to view the animals at a local shelter. As some may not know, many shelters often give their animals silly, unique names. As someone who has found joy from seeing the shelter names before, we thought that it would be fun to incorporate this into our project. We believe that shelters are often overlooked, as many people look to breeders for puppies and kittens when they are planning on adopting a pet. We have also provided valuable resources for those looking to adopt from the shelter, such as a map of the shelter location, along with pet stores and veterinary clinics. Users can also check out adoptable pets currently at the clinic!

How we built it

We built our project using HTML, CSS, and javascript. Each team member got to work on an HTML page individually, which allowed us to each put in our own creative touches, eventually coming together to build a beautiful, cohesive website.

Challenges we ran into

We had difficulty finding a new and unique way to incorporate animals into our project. While there are many ways to help bring awareness to animal shelters, we found that we had yet to incorporate something that hadn't already been done before. After going back and forth on ideas, we finally settled on something that we believe hasn't been done before.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of ourselves for being able to persevere through all of the challenges that we faced. After a long day of getting stuck in corners, we managed to work through our differences as a team and create a website that we are proud of and found enjoyable. We are also proud of how our stylistic choices came together, and feel as though our website is very visually appealing, as well as creative and fun.

What we learned

We learned that it is quite difficult to come up with a new and innovative idea that has yet to already be done. Prior to starting our project, we were all excited to create something new and thought that the ideas and possibilities could be endless. However, after hours of pondering on ideas, we often found ourselves back at square one, completely scrapping our previous plans.

What's next for Woofdiculous Unscrambler

While we are unsure what is next for Woofdiculous Unscrambler, we hope that people are able to find as much delight in our project as we did. We hope to possibly improve our website one day, allowing for more shelter animals to gain traction from our site. Potentially we could do this by reaching out to shelters to reach a larger group of animals.
