Inspiration

As vocational school alumni and students, we recognize the challenges faced by schools and graduates alike. Schools often struggle to track their alumni, making it difficult to evaluate the effectiveness of their educational programs. Meanwhile, fresh graduates frequently face confusion about their next steps after graduation, whether to enter the workforce or continue their education. This uncertainty can be particularly challenging for students in their final year of school. In Indonesia, the potential of vocational school graduates is vast, yet they often lack the resources and guidance to navigate the transition from education to employment or further studies. Current job platforms provide opportunities but fall short in offering personalized guidance and mentorship that these graduates need. This inspired us to create "Berufsvernetzen," a platform designed to bridge this gap. Our mission is to track alumni and provide schools with valuable data to improve their programs and help students and graduates make informed decisions about their future.

What it does

"Berufsvernetzen" is a comprehensive platform that serves vocational schools and their alumni. Here's how it works: Survey Alumni: We conduct regular surveys every six months to gather data on alumni progress and outcomes. This helps schools assess the effectiveness of their programs and make necessary improvements. Data Analytics: Our platform uses AI from Google Analytics to analyze survey data, providing schools with accurate insights and recommendations for enhancing their educational systems.

How we built it

Our team of four developers divided the responsibilities between client-side and server-side development. Here’s a brief overview of our development process: Planning and Setup: We established a CI/CD pipeline using Google Cloud to streamline deployment, testing, and cross-checking our work. We also set up our infrastructure with Google Cloud services such as Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, PubSub, and Cloud Build. Development: We used Next.js for the frontend and Go for the backend. Our developers worked on separate branches, integrating their work through pull requests. The frontend and backend development proceeded in parallel, ensuring efficient progress. AI Integration: We utilized Google Analytics for data analysis, which provides schools with actionable insights from the alumni survey data.

Challenges we ran into

Developing "Berufsvernetzen" was not without its challenges: Integration of Google Cloud Services: Combining multiple Google Cloud services to achieve the desired functionality was complex and required a special approach for seamless integration. Local Testing: Testing services like Cloud Functions and Cloud SQL locally was difficult, necessitating the use of proxies and extensive trial and error.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud of several key accomplishments: Effective Use of Cloud Services: We managed to use Google Cloud and other services efficiently, maintaining cost-effectiveness while achieving our technological goals. Learning and Innovation: Through trial and error, we learned a lot about integrating AI and cloud services, and we successfully structured our platform to meet our requirements.

What we learned

This project taught us valuable lessons: Thorough Research: We realized the importance of in-depth research on the technologies we plan to use, ensuring we stay updated with the latest guides and best practices. Time Management: We learned that no matter how much time is allocated, projects often require more effort and can lead to sleepless nights. However, these experiences are invaluable and contribute to our growth.

What's next for Berufsvernetzen

We’re excited about the future of "Berufsvernetzen." Our roadmap includes: Alumni Job Apply: We plan to introduce a feature where alumni can apply for job postings provided by their respective schools. This will include a CV template to simplify the application process. School Job Supply: Schools will be able to post internal job opportunities exclusively for their alumni, leveraging the school’s network with industry partners to provide targeted job offers. Mentorship Programs: We will offer one-on-one mentorship sessions, either online or offline, where alumni can provide personalized guidance to current students. These sessions will be scheduled like consultations to ensure effective and meaningful interactions. Join us in building a brighter future for vocational school graduates with "Berufsvernetzen."
