Inspiration
I started my career as a front-end developer and spent over a decade building countless templates — from the early days of WordPress to the rise of Webflow, Framer, and newer tools like Inverter. Over the years, I’ve seen web design evolve dramatically, but nothing compares to the current wave of AI-powered design.
The stunning symmetry and visual polish generated by Bolt made me realize design was entering a transformational era nobody truly anticipated. That inspired me to build BentoLander — a simple, AI-powered website builder where anyone can generate a beautiful About Me site instantly by just describing themselves.
What it does
BentoLander lets users type a short personal introduction and instantly generates multiple unique, bento-style website designs on an infinite canvas — like getting personalized search results for your perfect About Me page.
Users can scroll through these AI-crafted designs, preview different styles, and customize every element — text, images, icons, and colors. Once satisfied, they can publish their site with a single click to a unique subdomain. BentoLander also includes exclusive video bentos for visually rich storytelling, ideal for bakers, artists, or bloggers.

How we built it
Our core building blocks:
- Bolt for generating beautiful, immersive UI designs.
- Gemini and OpenAI for creating relevant, personalized text content.
- AWS and Supabase for secure, scalable back-end infrastructure.
- A custom React + TypeScript front-end, with our own bento editor that allows live editing of every block.
The user flow:
- The user types an introduction (e.g., “I am a designer with 11 years of experience”).
- Our system generates multiple bento designs instantly and displays them in an infinite canvas.
- The user previews and edits the bentos.
- A single click publishes the personalized About Me website live.
Challenges we ran into
- Short timeline: We had to build an end-to-end SaaS — with authentication, dashboard analytics, publishing workflows — in just a few days.
- Prompt engineering: Achieving consistent, high-quality outputs from AI required deep experimentation with prompt crafting, JSON parsing, and handling varied responses.
- Integrating multiple AIs: Deciding between Gemini, OpenAI, and others for text generation forced us to benchmark speed, creativity, and accuracy.
- Infinite canvas rendering: Smoothly displaying many bentos on one page without performance issues was technically complex.
- Design QA: Ensuring every generated bento looked polished and responsive was time-consuming, especially with the unpredictable nature of AI-generated content.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Delivering a fully working, AI-powered website generator within the hackathon timeframe.
- Building a unique infinite canvas experience that feels like exploring personalized design search results.
- Integrating seamless editing of every bento block, making customization intuitive for non-technical users.
- Launching a true single-click publishing system to instantly take a site live on a subdomain.
What we learned
- Prompt crafting is everything: We gained hands-on experience crafting prompts that guide AI to consistent, usable outputs.
- Balance of AI and design: Combining Bolt’s polished UI with AI-generated content showed us the power of blending design tools and language models.
- AI is powerful but needs orchestration: While AI can generate incredible assets, making it reliable requires careful design, error handling, and prompt iteration.
What's next for Bentolander
Over the next 8 weeks, we plan to:
- Launch flexible pricing plans for individuals and professionals.
- Allow users to add and configure more bentos per website.
- Enable interactive features like form submissions.
- Integrate with platforms like YouTube, Spotify, and GitHub. So we can grab the latest episodes, get latest git checkins etc
- Introduce custom domain mapping, so users can publish their bento websites directly to their own domain.
We’re excited to keep building BentoLander so everyone can tell their story beautifully.
