Benevolent Blackmailer

Inspiration

The project is part of a full musical inspired by John Grisham's book The Chamber.

What it does

The basic idea is that a man sees a murder and decides, rather than handling it himself, he will blackmail the person. This song aims to establish a villain.

How we built it

This is an early project built several months ago when tools were less powerful and before improving our workflow via using Fal A.I. The process was slow, with a lot of generations needed to get a matching art style.

The basic workflow is as follows: first, the script and songs. After this, we get a reference picture for each character, as well as a file full of text descriptions for scenes and characters, and generate a still. This is then often edited before we convert it to a video. We'll iterate on prompts recursively until we arrive at outcomes we like. Often, video clips are cropped or adjusted, and sometimes we use more extreme editing techniques.

Challenges we ran into

The main issue was simply getting the AI to work back then, especially with an unusual art style. We needed a lot of iterations to get artwork that even vaguely matched. This is no longer an issue, but it really was when this video was made.

This is a song from one of two complete musicals I've made. What we learned

This was my big AI project, and you can see the progression from songs 1-12. This is an early song, and so the quality is lower, but it was the only video I had eligible for the category, and I believe the song itself and the concept is strong.
