The real spirit of cycling, purity and simplicity. Just you and your bike.
What it does
The brake light works as soon as you start breaking, whether using the brakes or by decreasing the speed another way. BeLight is a pure brake light works independently, feeling your ride and alerting the environment about your braking move.
How we built it
We designed a 3d printer case for the project. We used an Arduino Nano + 6DOF ic + Neopixels ring,
Challenges we ran into
Use the inertial sensor for detecting when we are breaking is the most trickie part of the project. Slopes affect the readiness of the deceleration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We were able to finish an initial prototype on time and recognize what are the next steps in order to bring back the purity and simplicity of cycling.
What we learned
We learned to try and to fix on the way, as well as we have much more learning at the moment about how the acceleration sensor works with inertia and the creation of vectors.
What's next for BeLight
To test it on extreme conditions, to improve the prototype, and start a pilot project for distribution.
We believe that everything on your bike should be as simple and beautiful as the ride itself. Nowadays, most of all performed activities are connected to applications and features that you don't even need, loosing, in this case, touch with the real spirit of cycling. The more technology, the less excitement while performing. However, more independent gadgets that satisfy basic needs such as safety connect us again with the joy of cycling.
BeLight brings a pure brake light that works independently, feeling your ride and alerting the environment about your braking move. A technology based on an accelerometer, as easy to install as the traditional brake lights and as smart as the most featured ones. There is no need of connection to the brakes since the brake light works as soon as you start breaking, whether using the brakes or by decreasing the speed another way. BeLight belongs to the bike, simplifies your ride, and brings back the beauty of cycling.
