Inspiration
The team behind BELIEVE was inspired to create our webpage while researching for this challenge. We discovered that electric vehicle information can be unorganized and difficult to comprehend, so we wanted to create a source to solve this problem. Soon enough, individuals will have to manage recycling or repurposing a used electric vehicle battery and buying a new one, so we wanted to also create a solution to this problem as well.
The Product
BELIEVE provides consumers every resource they’ll ever need to know about EV batteries. From choosing the most environmentally indexed product, life cycle tracking, to what to do with spent batteries, BELIEVE provides the means to find a recycler, repurposer, donation cause, and the labor.
The Creation
Our team of developers used React.js to create our webpage. To help organize all of our many features, we used the framework tool Grommet. One of these features is finding the closest dealership to our customers, and we use Google Maps API to complete this.
Challenges
Starting on day one, our team unexpectedly lost two teammates causing our Go Squad to be one member. Even though we lost a third of our team already, we continued on. In addition, none of our developers had worked with React before, but we believed this language would be the best for our product. In a few weeks, not only did our developers learn React, they created our final product with it.
Accomplishments
Each teammate had to carry more weight than originally expected with the loss of two teammates, and our developers did not have experience with React and little experience with web development overall. Because of these hurdles we had to jump through, we are more than proud of our final product. Each of our developers are proud of the features they coded since they had to learn the React language as they developed. In addition, Thomas Graber was the only teammate on the Go Squad, and he has no background in finance since his major is cybersecurity. Thomas worked diligently with our Go Squad coach, Zach Vasseur, to create the business model and market analysis, and Thomas is so proud of his hard work.
Learning Opportunities
Our Pro Squad learned multiple hard skills: React, Git, JavaScript, CSS, HTML. In addition, our Pro Squad helped Thomas, the only member of the Go Squad, with his business-focused tasks. Our entire team learned about the business world, and all of the terms surrounding it.
Next Steps
For the future of BELIEVE, we will expand our webpage to include information and buying availability for every electric vehicle. In addition, we want the environmental-scale to become a recognizable part of our product, so we will put future resources into marketing this feature. This scale is meant to recognize the battery's environmental impact from the mining of its resources to being put into the vehicle, so we will have a team digging to find this information. We want to partner with well-established journal organizations. We want the front page of our product to be full of the latest information involving electric vehicles, and these sources would do the trick.
