Overview

This project captures the behind-the-scenes journey of creating our AI-powered video submission for the Chroma Awards. Our goal here was to document, reflect, and share everything we experienced during the original project — from exploring various sponsor tools to understanding how each element shaped the final output. This BTS focuses on the creative process, technical struggles, and the insights we gathered along the way.

What We Did

  • Planned the narrative flow of this BTS video to clearly explain every step we took in the original project.
  • Reviewed the AI tools we had previously worked with and curated the best examples, clips, and visuals to showcase in this breakdown.
  • Analyzed and organized our workflow, selecting the most relevant trials, mistakes, and improvements to present in a clear structure.
  • Explained the creative and technical reasoning behind each decision in the original project—why certain visuals worked, why some tools failed, and how we adapted.
  • Edited and assembled the BTS presentation, ensuring it stayed engaging while still being informative and transparent.
  • Evaluated our overall process to highlight what helped, what slowed us down, and what made the biggest difference creatively.
  • Managed technical challenges, including tool login issues, account failures, and slow generation times, and still shaped the BTS into a polished output.

Tools Discussed

  • ElevenLabs – Featured in this BTS for voiceover because of its clarity and stable performance.

Outcome

Despite facing account errors, tool breakdowns, and unpredictable technical issues during the original project, we were able to complete it and the BTS successfully. This video documents everything we experimented with—what worked beautifully, what needed multiple retries, and how all the pieces eventually came together. The BTS serves as a clear walkthrough of the creative process behind the final ad.

What We Learned

  • AI tools are powerful, but not predictable, so we always need backup options and flexibility.
  • Prompting is a skill, and the more we practiced, the better our results became across all tools.
  • Every tool has a personality—some excel at visuals, some at motion, some at clarity, and some struggle with tiny details like earbuds.
  • Interface design matters, because a clean, intuitive layout helped us work faster and stay motivated.
  • Technical errors are part of the process, so patience and quick improvisation became essential.
  • Creative flow improves with experimentation, especially when we’re not afraid to redo, tweak, or completely restart a visual.
  • Keeping the story consistent was more important than perfection in every frame.
  • Documenting the journey helped us appreciate how much we learned from the entire experience.
