Inspiration

Trying to decide on a college is a tough decision. You are bombarded with plenty of printed and carefully released information. Students want to see behind the scenes and see what actual events and what actual students are a like.

What it does

Application allows students at UT Austin the opportunities to post events, respond to events and just be social.

How we built it

Front end was build with HTML and CSS. Backend was built with mongoose, apollo-graphql, JavaScript. The work was split with one partner working on the front end and one on the backend.

Challenges we ran into

Since there was only two of us, we had to split the work front end and backend. The varying knowledge differences resulted in challenges connecting the server to the client. The process was started but we were unable to finish in the short amount of time. The scope also had to be reduced to accommodate the low man power as well as the fact that many free api's still required a request of a api key which could take days.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have a demo of the front end and a functioning backend. We know what the front end would look like and what information should be passed from server to client.

What we learned

That sometimes a mvp just requires a reduced scope of work and that taking on too much will result in nothing being done. As we also worked to our strengths, we were able to explore our partners work and learn more about what they were doing while improving our own knowledge

What's next for Behind the Scenes

  • Connect the front end.
  • Add functionality to bring queries and mutations from server side to client allowing the free flow of information.

Our Vision (long term)

Through this app, our vision is to provide college information and admission discussion boards to help prospective students make their decisions. Users can also post events, news articles to discuss with one another. There is so much that we missed out from the pandemic, we hope to reconnect people through the various discussions. What’s more, users can view information from multiple colleges and get an overview of what is trending in various communities, eliminating the need to go to multiple websites and multiple social media accounts to keep updated.
