Inspiration

After seeing how apps like BeReal helped people be more authentic online, we wanted to go a step further by not just sharing moments, but feeling connected. We realized that many friendships fade not because people stop caring, but because they stop checking in. Inner Circle was born from the idea that staying close should feel easy, natural, and meaningful even from miles apart.

What it does

Inner Circle helps small groups of 2–6 close friends stay connected through daily prompts. Each day, everyone in your group receives the same question something light, reflective, or funny and responds with a short text, image, or emoji. Once everyone replies, the answers are revealed to the group, sparking real moments of laughter, nostalgia, and closeness. It’s a private, safe space just for your closest friends.

How we built it

We built Inner Circle using Next.js for the front-end and backend routes, leveraging React for dynamic UI updates and simple serverless APIs for managing groups, prompts, and responses. We used a lightweight database to handle user sessions, daily prompt storage, and reveal synchronization. The focus was on clean design, fast performance, and a personal, non-feed-like experience.

Challenges we ran into

    • Syncing daily prompts and responses smoothly across different users and devices.
• Creating a UI that feels intimate and inviting rather than like traditional social media.
• Designing a reveal mechanic that feels satisfying and builds anticipation.
• Balancing our time between design, backend, and frontend integration during the hackathon.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

• Built a functional prototype that captures the emotion of staying close with friends.
• Designed a unique reveal flow that feels personal and rewarding.
• Created an app that combines simplicity with depth — small daily moments that strengthen relationships.
• Learned to build and collaborate quickly under pressure.

What we learned

• How small design choices can shape emotional tone and user trust.
• That social apps don’t need endless feeds — sometimes one thoughtful question a day is enough.
• How to manage real-time group synchronization
• The importance of intentional UX when designing for connection.

What's next for Inner Circle

• Adding personalized prompt categories (funny, deep, nostalgic, random).
• Allowing users to write their own prompts for friends.
• Adding group streaks or weekly “memories” recaps.
• Expanding to iOS and Android with cloud sync.
• Using AI to generate prompt suggestions that reflect each group’s vibe and history
