Inspiration
We were inspired by popular visual novels and platforms such as Episode.
What it does
In Begonia Grove, you play as a person who has been living in the city all their life. Seeking change, you arrive at your P.O. box to find a letter telling you that you have inherited the farm of your late grandfather. You must now embark on a new chapter in your life to manage this mysterious farm, meet new suitors, and find yourself along the way.
Begonia Grove is a farm simulation/visual novel game with loveable characters and captivating gameplay. Through this story, players must use their critical thinking skills in order to keep their farm from going bankrupt!
How we built it
Begonia Grove was constructed in the engine Ren'Py. For those unfamiliar with Ren'Py, it utilizes python scripting to create interactive visual novel experiences.
Character Assets were modeled and designed in Procreate.

Challenges we ran into
At times, Ren'Py gave us some errors if we failed to download specific packages. GitHub also caused some issues when we needed to push our code onto the repository. When testing out the game, we realized that the positioning of the assets was off and had to go back and forth to adjust placement.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
As a team, we were all able to really focus on one particular part that we felt strong in and equally contribute to the project. The story and assets of the game are all completely original and made from scratch. The overall project streamlining was also quite smooth.
What we learned
Making a master plan and following it through is important, especially for timed projects such as this one. We also learned how to utilize the Ren'Py engine, as it was the first time any of us had used it.
What's next for Begonia Grove
We have only created the prologue, and chapters 1 and 2 as of now. We are looking to expand the game with more chapters, more interactive content, and more characters.
