BeforeHand is an app which helps people practise before entering unfamiliar situations. It involves practising making decisions and conversations that you don't know how will happen.

Inspiration

Unfamiliar situations are tricky to deal with and advice alone won't always prepare you for what actually happens when something tricky happens. I wanted to create a way for people to rehearse possible situations before facing them in real life.

What it does

BeforeHand creates personalised AI rehearsals. Users make decisions and respond to simulated conversations, then receive feedback about what went well and how they could prepare or improve. This can help people in real-life situations because they have already practised how to respond to something similar.

How I built it

I built BeforeHand using Codex, GPT-5.6 and the OpenAI API. Codex helped me code, debug problems, connect the API and deploy the website. GPT-5.6 generates personalised situations and feedback.

Challenges I ran into

The most difficult parts were connecting the AI, keeping the simulation consistent and deploying the app successfully.

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I am proud that I created a working website where users can practise a personalised situation and receive feedback without needing an account.

What I learned

I learned how to build and deploy an AI-powered website, connect an API and use Codex to solve technical problems.

What's next for BeforeHand

I would like to add more realistic voice conversations, and more situations.
