Inspiration
Most visual simulation tools answer one question:
“What could this change look like now?”
BeforeForever started with a different question:
“Will I still prefer this visual direction when I explore it through time?”
A visual preference does not exist only in the present. Something that feels right today may feel different when viewed in another context or at another age.
BeforeForever was created to add that missing temporal layer to visual exploration.
The need for greater confidence before visual decisions is already visible in the market. Perfect Corp's 2026 Modern Aesthetics Consumer report, based on a survey of 300 consumers, found that 1 in 3 respondents had regretted an aesthetic procedure, while 84% said AI-generated previews would increase their confidence in trying a treatment and 87% said AI visualization would increase their trust in a provider.
BeforeForever explores a complementary question: once a visual direction can be previewed, what happens when the user evaluates that same preference through time?
Instead of treating a generated image as an answer, we treat it as a scenario to explore, compare and refine.
The core idea became:
CREATE → AGE → COMPARE → REFINE
What it does
BeforeForever is a visual exploration experience that helps users compare facial scenarios not only today, but also through time.
A user begins with a portrait and creates an independent facial scenario using Perfect Corp Face Reshape.
The original portrait and the generated scenario remain side by side so every change stays understandable and easy to revisit.
Users can create different alternatives, compare scenarios and refine a selected direction instead of being presented with one transformation as the final answer.
Then BeforeForever goes further.
Using Perfect Corp Aging, the application explores both the original portrait and the selected scenario at the same future age.
Same age. Same comparison. Different perspective.
A synchronized timeline allows the user to move between Today and future ages while preserving the comparison.
BeforeForever also includes:
- multiple independent scenario slots;
- refinement while preserving scenario provenance;
- Visual Structure analysis;
- a Preference Timeline for recording choices across different ages;
- a Visual Preference Summary;
- downloadable comparison results;
- English and Portuguese interfaces;
- responsive desktop and mobile experiences;
- privacy and usage guidance.
BeforeForever does not provide medical recommendations, surgical predictions, diagnoses, beauty scores or guarantees of future appearance.
It is a structured way to explore visual preferences before making a real-world decision.
How we built it
BeforeForever is a responsive web application built with:
- Next.js
- React
- TypeScript
- Tailwind CSS
- Perfect Corp APIs
- Vercel
Perfect Corp integrations run server-side so API credentials are not exposed to the browser.
The application coordinates several stages of one continuous workflow.
Portraits are prepared and validated before processing. Face Reshape generates independent visual scenarios, while each scenario keeps its own state and provenance.
For temporal exploration, Aging results are generated for both the original portrait and the selected scenario and then synchronized by age in the interface.
We also built task handling for asynchronous processing and result recovery, allowing the application to retrieve generated images after processing without exposing that complexity to the user.
On top of the generated results, we developed the comparison layer: synchronized timelines, scenario selection, refinement, Visual Structure, Preference Timeline, summary and downloadable comparison output.
The final result is deployed as a working web product rather than a static prototype.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was not generating an image. It was turning several generated results into one coherent decision experience.
Once users can create multiple scenarios, refine them and explore them at different ages, the application needs to preserve exactly which result belongs to which scenario and which stage of the workflow.
Synchronizing the original portrait and scenario at the same future age was especially important because that comparison is the central idea of BeforeForever.
Perfect Corp processing is asynchronous, so a scenario or aging result may not be available immediately after a request. We had to preserve task identities across Face Reshape and Aging, recover completed results when needed, and keep the interface synchronized even when generation and retrieval happened at different moments.
Image delivery introduced another real production challenge. Some generated results had to be recovered from remote result URLs reliably enough to support comparison and downloadable outputs instead of behaving like disposable demo images.
Finally, we had to be very deliberate about product framing.
Facial transformation and aging imagery can easily be misunderstood as prediction. BeforeForever intentionally describes its results as visual scenarios and explorations, not as guarantees of how someone will look in the future.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that BeforeForever became a complete, publicly deployed experience during the hackathon.
The application does more than demonstrate a single API call.
It combines Perfect Corp Face Reshape and Aging into a workflow where the output of one capability becomes part of a larger visual decision process.
We successfully built:
- real portrait processing;
- independent Scenario A, B and C workflows;
- scenario refinement;
- synchronized Original vs. Scenario aging;
- an interactive age timeline;
- visual structure analysis;
- preference tracking through time;
- downloadable comparison results;
- privacy guidance;
- English and Portuguese support;
- responsive mobile and desktop interfaces;
- a production deployment accessible from the web.
Most importantly, the finished product expresses the original idea clearly:
Visual simulation can show a possibility. BeforeForever helps the user explore whether that possibility still feels right when the context changes through time.
What we learned
The most important lesson came from building the age comparison itself:
generating a convincing image was not enough.
The useful moment happened when the original portrait and a modified scenario could be placed at the same future age and compared under the same temporal context.
That changed how we thought about the product.
Once multiple possibilities exist, users need ways to compare them, understand where they came from, revisit them and evaluate them in different contexts.
That made provenance, synchronization and comparison just as important to BeforeForever as image generation itself.
We also learned that combining specialized APIs can create something substantially different from exposing each capability independently.
Face Reshape creates the visual direction.
Aging changes the temporal context.
BeforeForever connects both through a comparison workflow centered on a human decision.
What's next for BeforeForever
The next step is to turn BeforeForever's current exploration experience into a persistent visual decision history.
For consumers, that means being able to save an exploration, return to it later, compare previous scenarios and see how their recorded preferences changed across ages.
The first commercial path for BeforeForever is B2B2C: a consultation layer for beauty and aesthetic businesses.
Instead of showing a client one simulated result, a professional could create multiple visual directions, compare them side by side, explore the same alternatives at matched future ages, and record which direction the client prefers at each stage.
The professional would not receive a prediction or recommendation from BeforeForever.
The product would provide a structured visual workspace for the conversation while keeping the final decision with the user.
A commercial version could be offered through subscription or usage-based plans, with persistent projects, consultation histories, controlled generation credits and richer comparison tools.
The goal is not to replace professional judgment.
The opportunity is to build the decision-exploration layer between visual simulation and a real-world choice.
Visual simulation shows a possibility. BeforeForever helps people explore whether that possibility continues to feel right when the context changes through time.
