Inspiration
We all make important decisions in life, whether it's choosing a career, changing direction, or taking a big risk. Sometimes, we get so focused on what could go right that we forget to ask what could go wrong. We wanted to build something that helps people look beyond their first instinct and think through their choices before committing. That's where Before You Act came from.
What it does
Before You Act is an AI-powered decision intelligence workspace that helps users explore their options instead of simply telling them what to choose.
Decision Matrix: Helps break down a decision by complexity, available information, and uncertainty. Causal Cascades: Explores the possible short- and long-term consequences of different choices. Assumption Detector: Identifies beliefs that may need to be tested before taking action. Adversarial Mode: Challenges a plan, highlights potential risks, and explores how things could go wrong. Pivot Trigger: Helps users identify what might make them reconsider or change their approach.
The goal is to help people make more informed decisions while keeping the final choice in their hands
How we built it
We built an interactive web workspace that combines AI-powered analysis with a calming, nature-inspired interface. We wanted the experience to feel different from a typical chatbot, so we focused on presenting decision-related insights in a more structured and visual way.
The interface uses a frosted-glass aesthetic with nature-themed backgrounds to create a clean, focused environment. Each feature is designed to help users examine a different part of their decision-making process.
Challenges we ran into
One of our biggest challenges was turning a broad idea into something practical and useful. We didn't want to create another chatbot that simply lists pros and cons. We wanted to help users question their assumptions, consider consequences, and prepare for unexpected outcomes.
We also had to think about how to present complex AI-generated insights without overwhelming users. Balancing functionality, usability, and visual design was an important part of the process.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud to have turned an idea into an interactive workspace with a clear purpose. Instead of positioning AI as something that makes decisions for people, we designed Before You Act around helping people think independently.
We're also proud of the combination of structured decision analysis and a calming visual experience, making a potentially stressful process feel more approachable.
What we learned
We learned that using AI for decision-making is not just about getting an answer. It's about asking better questions, looking at problems from different perspectives, and recognizing what we don't know.
We also learned how important it is to turn an ambitious idea into clear, useful features and create an interface that people can actually understand and use.
What's next for Before You Act — AI Decision Intelligence Workspace
We want to make Before You Act more personalized, improve how it compares multiple options, and help users track their assumptions and decision outcomes over time.
We also hope to introduce better scenario simulations, more interactive consequence maps, and clearer ways to test assumptions before making major commitments.
Our long-term vision is to build a tool that helps people approach difficult choices with less guesswork and more clarity.
