Inspiration

We all want to become a better version of ourselves, but knowing what to change is often easier than actually changing it.

I was inspired by the idea that our identity is shaped by the small things we repeatedly do — how we spend our mornings, what we eat, what we consume online, how we manage our time, and the habits we build every day.

Most habit apps focus on isolated tasks: drink water, exercise, meditate, wake up early. I wanted to build something more personal — an AI-powered companion that understands the person behind those habits and helps them gradually become the person they want to be.

That idea became Bee You.

Become your higher self, 1% at a time.

What Bee You Does

Bee You is an AI-powered personal growth and habit companion.

Instead of simply giving users a generic checklist, Bee You learns about their lifestyle, goals, routines, preferences, and aspirations during onboarding. It then uses that context to help create a more personalized daily routine.

The goal is not to completely transform someone's life overnight.

It is to help them make small, consistent improvements — one day and one habit at a time.

How We Built It

Bee You is built as a Flutter mobile application with a Python backend.

The application includes:

  • Personalized onboarding to understand the user's lifestyle and goals
  • Daily habit and routine tracking
  • Mood tracking
  • Personalized routines
  • Progress and analytics
  • Subscription-based premium features
  • An AI-powered experience for generating personalized recommendations

The Flutter app communicates with our backend APIs, which handle user data, routines, analytics, authentication, and AI-related functionality.

We also integrated RevenueCat for subscription management so that AI-powered premium functionality can be made available to paying users while keeping the core experience accessible.

For the AI layer, we designed the system so that the model receives relevant user context rather than treating every user as the same person. This allows the recommendations to be much more personalized to the individual's goals and lifestyle.

What We Learned

One of the biggest lessons from building Bee You was that building an AI product is not just about calling an AI model.

The difficult part is deciding what context the AI should receive, when it should be called, and how its output should fit into the actual user experience.

We learned how important it is to:

  1. Collect meaningful user context during onboarding.
  2. Structure that information so it can be used by AI effectively.
  3. Separate free functionality from AI-powered premium functionality.
  4. Build reliable APIs between the mobile application and backend.
  5. Handle authentication, subscriptions, analytics, and persistent user data.
  6. Design AI interactions around an actual user problem rather than adding AI just for the sake of having AI.

We also learned that personalization is an iterative process. A recommendation that sounds good in isolation isn't necessarily useful to a real person. The experience needs to improve as we understand the user's behavior better.

Challenges

Building Bee You involved several challenges.

On the technical side, we worked through issues involving Flutter, backend APIs, authentication, database persistence, cloud deployment, subscription integration, and AI model integration.

We also had to solve an important product challenge: how do we make an AI-generated routine feel personal rather than generic?

This required iterating on the onboarding flow and the way user information is passed to the AI system.

Another challenge was making AI functionality economically sustainable. AI calls can become expensive as usage grows, so we designed the product around usage limits and premium access rather than making every AI interaction unlimited.

Finally, we had to balance ambition with what could realistically be built within the hackathon timeframe. That forced us to focus on the core experience: understanding the user, generating useful personalized guidance, and helping them build consistent habits.

What's Next

Bee You is still evolving.

Our vision is to turn it into a personal growth companion that understands the user's patterns over time and becomes increasingly useful as the relationship with the user develops.

We want Bee You to move beyond simply telling people what to do and instead help them understand who they are becoming through their daily actions.

Small improvements compound.

That's the idea behind Bee You.
