Inspiration

Our inspiration came from both a team member, Sneha’s, personal experience as well as empowerment from environmental activist Greta Thunberg.

What it does

Beeswax Packaging has a wide range of benefits. It is biodegradable, easy to clean, reusable, and has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties to keep food fresh. Having these wraps instead of plastic ones is one of the key ways to save our planet.

How we built it

To create our product, we used food-grade beeswax pellets, 100% organic cotton fabric, coconut/jojoba oils, rosin, scissors, a brush, parchment paper, and a baking sheet.

Challenges we ran into

As we were creating our product, we not only learned many valuable things but also came across some obstacles. At first, we struggled to make the beeswax packaging sturdy enough, so we had to adjust our design. This took some time and after many discussions and trials, we were able to create a product that worked. Since this is the first time our team created a website, it took a while to get familiar with the syntax.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Our team is proud of our problem-solving skills when we realized the product was not durable enough for real-life use. After focused discussions, we were able to figure out how to better the design of the product. We are also very proud of our teamwork skills.

What we learned

Our team learned a lot about how to build sustainable products that can truly create a difference. As we tweaked our design, we had to make sure that we still used reusable and safe materials. While we conducted research, we also learned a lot more about how big of a problem plastic pollution is and how it affects us. Additionally, we learned how to create a website to publicize Beeswax Packaging.

What's next for Beeswax Packaging

In the future, we plan to further develop our project by pitching Beeswax Packaging to fruit and vegetable distribution companies. We hope to spread the word about this more sustainable way to package fresh produce.
