Inspiration

The Bee Pioneer is a $50 wearable. It is priced at $49.99. A pioneer represents the spirit of exploration, breaking new ground, and stepping into the unknown to build something better for those who follow. Every tool we saw treated that audio as data to be mined. We wanted the opposite: what if the device treated your life journey as something to be kept.

What it does

Keepsakes. Every conversation we hear becomes a remembered line: the segment we kept circling, or a fragment of what was actually said. Never a transcript. Just enough to remember who I am.

How we built it

Python virtual environment throughout, reading Bee CLI's output. The architecture rule we never broke: deterministic first, LLM optional. Every feature works with no API key and nothing leaves the machine uninvited.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest problems were philosophical before they were technical. "None detected" is not a clean bill. We had to design the tool to flag its own silence. That same honesty principle ended up in the persona's voice ("you went quiet, I don't know why").

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The honesty principle as a system wide design rule, not a disclaimer. Ask them to show you. Whatever they have. Get judged against fixed fixture. Everything works with no key. The simulator and deterministic core mean the project is testable anywhere.

What we learned

Absence of evidence is not evidence of goodness. It showed up everywhere. Designing for what the tool couldn't hear made every feature better.

What's next for BeePlex

Ultimately, BeePlex aims to help individuals who long for warm conversations with those around them. It is designed not only to offer warmth, but also to help individuals move forward with a resolute and serious commitment, driven by a fair self-assessment system to achieve their goals. The first live LLM runs on real hardware data, and we're refining Bee's voice once it has actual weeks of memory to draw on. The simulator has one slot left. We're saving it for the scenario that teaches us something new. Beyond the October submission, the question we're sitting with is what a device that keeps things means for memory care and family history. The people who most need a witness are the ones least able to keep their own records.
