Inspiration
From the movie American people is from where we withdraw the inspiration to create an app with computer vision that evaluates businesses. We think that is important to notice that people nowadays care that the businesses whom they are giving money are doing the things ethically and environment friendly.
What it does
You upload an image URL from the web and it detects the brand associated with it, then it sends a response with an overall score regarding their envionment-friendlyness and their ethic score with real data retrieved from trusting businesses.
How we built it
We use node.js framework to develop it and used mysql as a database service to do it. David worked almost all creating the databases, exporting it, retrieving data from it and support to run it for the team. Angel and Sebastian were in charge of creating the frontend and the connections client-server to work correctly. Alfredo mainly worked on creating the presentation and creating test cases.
Challenges I ran into
Mainly it was regarding to the database, we ran into some problems when running it locally from some computers as there were problems with the installations, but we passed through it. Also we had a problem moving all the front end files to react as we noticed later that it would be very hard to finish the project using pure javascript/html.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
We made that the connection actually work and to retrieve information from the database when looking for it. We made that the webcam could take photos from the web.
What I learned
I've never worked with node.js so it was a full experience to almost learn from scratch and making the connections with APIs and databases so as trying to integrate webcam functions.
