inspiration

The inspiration for this project stemmed from a growing awareness of the critical role bees play in maintaining global biodiversity and food security. Bees are essential pollinators, responsible for fertilizing nearly 75% of the world’s flowering plants and over a third of the crops we consume. However, bee populations have been declining due to habitat loss, pesticide use, climate change, and disease. By creating a beginner-friendly beekeeping platform, we aim to empower more individuals to take part in conservation efforts, even from their own backyards. Making beekeeping accessible not only supports local ecosystems but also encourages a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between humans and the environment.

what we learned

This was the first hackathon for every member in our team. It was also our first exposure to full stack development. We learned React, Javascript, Flask, how to integrate APIs, video extraction, and more all from scratch, in the past 24 hours. This has been an intense learning experience that has pushed us far beyond our comfort zones and shown us how much we can accomplish in a short time with teamwork, curiosity, and persistence. Despite the challenges, we’re incredibly proud of what we built and even more excited about the new skills we’ve gained. This hackathon has sparked a genuine interest in tech, and we’re all walking away inspired to keep building.

challenges

From a loss of a team member halfway through to simply the intensity of learning so many new tools in such a short amount of time, our team had its fair share of challenges. Ultimately, we are proud that we stuck together, adapted quickly, and brought our project to life against the odds. Every obstacle became a lesson, and every late-night bug turned into a breakthrough moment. What mattered most was not just the final product, but the resilience and collaboration that got us there. tl;dr

  • :sob:
