Amazon Bee is designed around privacy. It listens, creates transcripts, generates summaries, and then deletes the original audio. While this is excellent for protecting users, we noticed a critical challenge for professionals such as lawyers, insurance adjusters, journalists, and compliance teams. Once a transcript is generated, there is no straightforward way to prove that it has not been modified later. Imagine a legal deposition, verbal agreement, interview, or insurance claim discussion. Months later, someone could question whether the transcript was altered. Since the original audio has been deleted, verifying authenticity becomes difficult. We wanted to solve this trust gap without compromising Bee's privacy-first philosophy.

Our idea was simple: What if every Bee transcript could carry a tamper-proof cryptographic proof of authenticity from the exact moment it was created?

This led to BeeVerify.

What it does

BeeVerify adds a trust and verification layer on top of Amazon Bee.

Whenever Bee generates a transcript: The transcript is hashed using SHA-256. A digital signature is created. A blockchain timestamp is recorded. A verification certificate is generated. The original audio can still be deleted to preserve privacy.

This creates a permanent proof that the transcript existed at a specific time and has not been altered since.

How we built it

Conversation ↓ Bee Transcript ↓ SHA-256 Hash ↓ Digital Signature ↓ Blockchain Timestamp ↓ Verification Certificate ↓ Audio Deleted

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was balancing privacy and verifiability.

Traditional verification systems often rely on storing original recordings. However, Bee intentionally removes audio data after processing to protect users.

We needed a way to:

Verify transcript authenticity. Avoid storing sensitive audio. Preserve Bee's privacy-first design. Build a workflow simple enough for non-technical users.

Another challenge was ensuring blockchain verification remained lightweight and practical rather than adding unnecessary complexity to the user experience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Built a trust layer for Amazon Bee without storing raw audio. Created a tamper-proof verification workflow. Preserved Bee's privacy-first architecture. Developed a solution with real-world applications in law, insurance, journalism, and compliance. Demonstrated how AI-generated transcripts can become verifiable records.

What we learned

Throughout this project, we learned that privacy and accountability do not have to be mutually exclusive.

Some key takeaways were:

Cryptographic hashing provides strong integrity guarantees with minimal overhead. Blockchain timestamps can establish a trusted chain of custody. Trust is becoming a critical requirement for AI-generated content. Privacy-preserving verification is especially important in legal, journalistic, and compliance workflows. Designing for regulated industries requires thinking beyond functionality and focusing on authenticity and auditability.

What's next for Bee Verify

Future enhancements include:

Court-ready evidence packages. Multi-party transcript signing. Enterprise compliance integrations. Smart contract-based verification certificates. Advanced chain-of-custody tracking. Regulatory and audit reporting tools.
