Inspiration

The inspiration behind this project came from the common problems faced in local beauty parlours such as long waiting times, manual appointment handling, missed bookings, and lack of real-time queue visibility for customers. I wanted to build a smart and scalable solution that could simplify appointment management for both customers and salon staff while also providing a modern digital experience. The idea of integrating AI-based conversations and live queue tracking made the project even more practical and user-friendly.

What it does

Beauty Parlour Appointment Slot and Live Queue based System is a full-stack MERN SaaS platform that allows customers to book appointments online, view live queue status, make payments, and manage bookings seamlessly.

The platform includes:

Real-time queue updates using Socket.IO and WebSockets Appointment slot booking and cancellation system Secure authentication using JWT and Google OAuth 2.0 Three-tier role-based access for Admin, Staff, and Customers Razorpay payment integration with automated refund handling AI chatbot for natural language booking and queue assistance Admin dashboard for analytics, revenue tracking, booking trends, and staff scheduling Media and image management using Cloudinary

How I built it

I built the project using the MERN stack:

Frontend: React.js, Tailwind CSS, JavaScript Backend: Node.js, Express.js Database: MongoDB Real-time Communication: Socket.IO and WebSockets Authentication & Security: JWT, Google OAuth 2.0, RBAC middleware Payments: Razorpay API integration Cloud Storage: Cloudinary Deployment: Vercel and Render

I designed the backend APIs, database schema, authentication flow, queue logic, and payment system independently. The frontend dashboards were developed with responsive UI components and real-time synchronization between multiple user roles.

Challenges I ran into

One of the major challenges was implementing real-time queue synchronization across Admin, Staff, and Customer dashboards without delays or inconsistent data. Managing WebSocket events and ensuring accurate queue updates required careful debugging and optimization.

Another challenge was integrating secure payment workflows with automatic refunds and slot release functionality. Handling role-based authorization across multiple dashboards while protecting APIs also required strong backend architecture.

Building the AI chatbot for natural language appointment booking was another interesting challenge because it involved understanding user intent and connecting conversational responses with backend booking actions.

What I learned

Through this project, I gained hands-on experience in full-stack MERN development, real-time systems, authentication security, payment gateway integration, and scalable API design. I also improved my problem-solving skills while working with WebSockets, RBAC authorization, and AI-powered conversational interfaces.

Most importantly, I learned how to independently architect and deploy a production-level application while balancing performance, security, and user experience.
