Inspiration
The inspiration for this project is to create a beauty tech app that empowers individuals with disabilities to experiment with makeup and hairstyles, receive virtual makeup tutorials and consultations, and find products that work for them. We noticed that the beauty industry often fails to consider the needs of individuals with disabilities. We wanted to create a solution that addresses this issue and promotes inclusivity and diversity in the beauty world.
What it does
The app, Beauty Bridge, will be an augmented reality (AR) makeup tutorial and consultation tool that enables users to virtually try on makeup. It will have an online shopping platform with accessibility features, experiment with different styles, and receive personalized product recommendations. The app will be designed with accessibility in mind, featuring voice controls, haptic feedback, and high-contrast modes to make it more accessible to users with a wide range of abilities and disabilities. The online shopping platform features accessibility features such as screen reader compatibility, high contrast modes, and a simplified checkout process. The app will also have a virtual community section where users can connect with others with similar disabilities, share tips and advice, and find inspiration.
How we will build it
We will build the app using AR technology, incorporating features such as facial recognition, virtual try-on, real-time product recommendations, web development, and community platform development. We will work closely with individuals with disabilities to ensure that the app will be designed with accessibility in mind, incorporating features such as voice controls, haptic feedback, and high contrast modes. We will conduct extensive testing to identify and address any potential barriers to accessibility and work with makeup artists and hairstylists to ensure that the app features a wide range of styles and products that would work for a diverse range of users. We will also test the app with a wide range of users with disabilities to ensure that it is as user-friendly as possible.
Challenges we may run into
One of the main challenges we may face is ensuring that the app is truly inclusive and accessible to individuals with a wide range of abilities and disabilities. This will require us to do extensive research on accessibility best practices, work closely with individuals with disabilities, and conduct extensive testing to identify and address any potential barriers to accessibility.
Another challenge we may face is incorporating a wide range of skin tones, hair types, and body shapes into the tools. We will work with a diverse group of models and consult with makeup artists and hairstylists to ensure that the app features a wide range of styles and products that would work for a diverse range of users.
Accomplishments that we'll proud of
We will be proud of the app itself, which we believe will represent a significant step forward in creating a more inclusive and diverse beauty culture. We will also be proud of the virtual community platform, which we hope will provide a supportive and inspiring space for individuals with disabilities to connect, share, and learn from one another.
What we learned
Throughout the development of the idea for the app, we learnt a great deal about the importance of accessibility in technology design, as well as the challenges and opportunities associated with creating an inclusive and diverse beauty culture. We also learnt a great deal from the individuals with disabilities who contributed to the development of this idea, and we're grateful for their insights and feedback. Finally, we learnt the power of technology to create positive change and empower individuals with disabilities to live their best lives.
What's next for Beauty Bridge
There are a few potential next steps for this project proposal, depending on the potential funding or support I may receive. Here are a few possibilities:
Develop a working prototype: The project team would be set up and they could focus on building a working prototype of the app, using the designs and concepts outlined in the proposal as a starting point. This could involve hiring developers, designers, and makeup artists to work on the project, as well as conducting further user research and testing to ensure that the tools are truly accessible and inclusive.
Seek funding: The project team could seek out funding from investors, grants, or other sources to support the development and launch of the app. This would involve creating a more detailed business plan, identifying potential partners or collaborators, and pitching the project to potential investors.
Partner with beauty brands: The project team could seek out partnerships with other beauty brands that are interested in promoting inclusivity and diversity in the industry. This could involve showcasing their products on the platform, co-creating tutorials and content, or providing funding and support for the project.
Launch the platform: Once the app is developed, the project team could focus on launching the platform and building a community around it. This could involve creating social media accounts, hosting events and webinars, and reaching out to influencers and advocates to promote the platform and its message of inclusivity.
Overall, there are many potential next steps for this project proposal, depending on the goals and resources at the disposal of our project team. With a strong commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, as well as the willingness to adapt and evolve based on user feedback, this project has the potential to make a real impact on the beauty industry and the lives of individuals with disabilities.
