Inspiration
"Embrace your beauty and the world will embrace you."
The inspiration behind the creation of Beautily, a mobile beauty application designed with accessibility first, stemmed from a lack of widely available options for people with disabilities to get makeup recommendations. Currently, individuals with disabilities often face difficulty trying on products in-store or discovering new makeup looks, leaving a large population interested in beauty unheard. That’s why we came up with a solution that could address the issue of those with disabilities not having many avenues that are easily accessible to them. There are about 64 million people with at least one disability in the US and the total disposable income for US adults with disabilities is about $490 billion.
Why is such a large population being left out?
What it does
Beautily is a mobile based application that serves as a stand alone product and can pair well with Estée Lauder's Voice-Enabled Makeup Assistant (VMA) app. Our app is accessible and inclusive for all and is developed with the users needs first. The app is accessible to those with both visual and physical impairments. Empathy is at the forefront of our product and we hope it can make everyone's lives a little bit easier.
Key features include:
- The ability to schedule makeup looks and receive reminders
- Get inspiration from a global community a la pinterest
- Receive in-depth tutorials on how to complete any given look
- Utilize our voice assistant for help with anything in-app
- Earn daily login points that can be redeemed towards gift cards, which can be used for favorite products.
Beauty is for everyone and we need to stop being an exclusive industry and start being an inclusive industry.

Challenges we ran into
Not having an actual live MVP to test with users for feedback. Beautily is an idea we would love to see become a reality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Being able to provide an effective solution for those with visual and physical impairment.
Our user interface is minimalist, accessible, and intuitive.
Even though we were based across two different time zones and ridiculously busy schedules, we are proud that we were able to come together and unite for this common goal.
What we learned
Time management is key, taking notes is essential and organizing all your files in one place definitely helps make workflows more efficient! Through teamwork, collaboration and communication, we created a project in such a short time span that we're proud of!
What's next for Beautily
In the future, we would love to implement the following features:
- Having users skin types analyzed and having product recommendations be exclusively tailored to the user.
- Receiving recommendations on products that won't aggravate their current skin condition or issue and a gift card to get some money off the product.
- Having our voice assistant speak in multiple languages.
- Potentially adding a social aspect where users can safely and easily message each other.
THANK YOU!!
