Inspiration

Healthcare management can be overwhelming from remembering medications to finding trustworthy doctors. Many apps handle one piece of the puzzle, but not the whole picture. We wanted to build an AI-powered health companion that brings everything together personalized guidance, medication tracking, and doctor discovery all in a secure, mobile-first experience.

What it does

BeauMED is an all-in-one health management app that helps users:

  • Chat with an AI health assistant for real-time medical guidance powered by Amazon Bedrock
  • Track medications with reminders, notes, and status updates stored in AWS DynamoDB
  • Search nearby doctors using Google Maps API, complete with ratings, distance, and direct calling
  • Manage secure user profiles and emergency contacts through AWS Cognito
  • Enjoy a clean, modern interface built with React Native + Expo Go, supporting both dark and light modes ## How we built it Frontend: React Native (Expo SDK 54) and TypeScript for cross-platform development Backend: AWS serverless stack:
  • Cognito for user authentication and JWT management
  • API Gateway for secure REST endpoints
  • Lambda (Python) for AI chat, medication CRUD, and doctor search
  • DynamoDB for real-time data persistence
  • S3 for secure image storage (for future prescription uploads)
  • Amazon Bedrock (Nova) powering conversational AI
  • Google Maps API for doctor search and location services

Challenges we ran into

  • Configuring JWT authentication between Cognito and API Gateway correctly
  • Debugging CORS and cross-region issues (Cognito in us-west-1 and API Gateway in us-east-1)
  • Handling real-time AI streaming responses while maintaining smooth UX
  • Managing secure file uploads with preassigned S3 URLs
  • Balancing UI complexity while supporting both mobile and web previews

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a fully serverless health platform powered by AWS and scalable across devices
  • Integrated AI health guidance that provides meaningful responses in real time
  • Designed a seamless authentication and data flow with complete end-to-end security
  • Created a polished and responsive cross-platform UI in under hackathon time constraints

What we learned

  • Deepened our understanding of AWS serverless architecture and its scalability
  • Learned how to securely integrate AI and cloud services in production-grade apps
  • Strengthened collaboration in managing multi-service deployments and real-time data handling
  • Mastered React Native Expo workflows for simultaneous mobile and web development

What's next for BeauMED

  • Add AI-powered prescription scanning to extract and auto-register medications from photos
  • Implement push notifications for medication reminders and doctor appointments
  • Expand the AI assistant with symptom tracking and preventive health suggestions
  • Publish BeauMED to the App Store and Google Play, and integrate Wearable device support (Apple Health, Fitbit)
