Inspiration
With the onset of widespread community quarantine and the closure of gyms and other places of exercise, people have become disconnected from their personal trainers, coaches and physiotherapists. Unfortunately due to the nature of the virus, the likely timescale towards a universal vaccine and the difficulty in achieving or maintaining a safe, infection-free environment in gyms, it is unlikely that this situation is likely to change in the near future.
There has been a move towards using video-conferencing software to manage workout sessions and rehabilitation, but this is an inadequate tool for properly judging form (both for the trainer/physio and client/patient) due to positioning of webcams, poor webcam quality or internet connection. This can result in poor form, greater risk of injury and a drop in motivation for the client.
What it does
Our APP Koachly, is an exercise/coaching tool designed and made to help health care professionals, fitness professionals and clients/patients to more effectively exercise and coach at home, or while physically distancing.
We propose a web and mobile app which:
- Uses AR within the web and mobile app to superimpose a model completing an exercise with perfect form next to the exercising client. This will provide immediate visual feedback to both the client and coach, allowing for self-correction or coaching points to be communicated.
- Combine this with a user interface which allows for recording of exercise statistics (reps completed, weight lifted etc). Graphical display of these stats over time.
- Programme design - coaches can design and set custom workouts for each client.
- Habit forming tools
- Nutrition tips
What impact do we hope to have?
- Improve the quality of exercise sessions for clients, while acting to reinforce the human link between trainer/physio and client/patient.
- Reduce the likelihood of musculoskeletal injury during remote exercising.
- Improve the efficacy of rehabilitative practice for physiotherapists or other similar health professionals.
How I built it
