Inspiration

We wanted to make something fast-paced and fun—something that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still offers room for creativity and strategy. Think of it like a chaotic sandbox where players can test weapons, experiment with combos, and just mess around together. We took a lot of inspiration from classic Flash games like Interactive Buddy, and Roblox games like Horrific Housing and Catalog Heaven —games that thrived because of their unpredictability and player-driven fun.

What It Does

Beat UP Your BULLY! is a multiplayer battle game where every player starts with the same amount of coins. You’ll use those coins to buy wild and wacky weapons – everything from summoning gadgets to buffs and disruption tools – to beat up your bully! The bully is a physics-based ragdoll NPC at the center of the game arena. Your goal is to do the most damage to the bully among everyone in the game for one timed round.

Each round is a chance to outsmart and sabotage other players, defend yourself, and create insane combos against the bully. For example, one of our favorite combos is the fatness wand applied to a herd of ducks for some epic, automatic damage. As you and your party deal more damage to the bully, the environment changes and the bully can even fight back. This makes every playthrough more dynamic and keeps players on their toes.

After each round, you’re awarded coins so you can build up a war chest of earnings to use for future playthroughs. Winning a round gets you bonus coins and a special currency, rare tokens, to unlock even crazier gear for next time. We’re constantly adding new gear so players have new content to engage with and keep coming back for more.

Our monthly leaderboard keeps track of global scores and encourages competition across the player base. Our custom quests add a sense of progression and provide some structure to balance the inherently sandbox nature of the game. In short, Beat UP Your BULLY! is equal parts experimentation, mayhem, and problem solving: when you put it all together, you get what we think is the most entertaining way to spend an evening in Horizon Worlds.

How We Built It

Most of the game was built entirely in the Meta Horizon Worlds desktop editor. We used Typescript for all the core logic, hand-painted a few textures in Photoshop, and used generative AI to help design sound effects and audio. This allowed us to move fast, iterate often, and keep the focus on gameplay.

Challenges We Ran Into

Balancing all the weapons and mechanics while keeping gameplay fair and fun took a lot of iteration. We also had to figure out how to give players a smooth experience across mobile, desktop, and VR; we invested a lot of effort into cross-platform UI and UX, performance optimization, and internal play testing. One challenge we’re still facing is building up our player base. We’re using social media (TikTok, IG Reels, YouTube shorts) to keep our community updated and engaged as we develop the game.

Accomplishments We’re Proud Of

The game feels alive. It’s energetic, fast, and funny—just like we hoped. We’re incredibly proud of how the weapon system has come together. Players keep finding creative uses for weapons we never expected. The sound design and music tie the game together in the perfect way, giving each round a fun chaotic vibe. Building the soundscape also gave us the opportunity to stretch our skillset with AI tools, and we’re excited to keep investing in that area. Finally, as players of the game ourselves, we love how addictive the game loop is. At the core of it all, we built this game because we wanted to make a space in Horizon Worlds where we would want to spend time, and we succeeded.

What We Learned

We learned how to work with the Meta Horizon Worlds API, and got deep into Typescript development. As mentioned previously, we learned a ton about AI generation and how to craft precise prompts. We learned about game marketing, how to engage with fans, and how to prioritize features based on demand. We’re brand new to game development, so the entire experience has been a real crash course in what it takes to build a cross-platform, sandbox game that feels fun no matter how many times you’ve played or how you want to play.

What’s Next for Beat UP Your BULLY!

We’re expanding the weapon roster, bringing in more player suggestions, and planning new boss fights with unique attacks and mechanics. The goal is to keep things fresh, chaotic, and fun. We're also constantly working on balancing and better tools for players to strategize and share their best combos.
