Inspiration
I've been a fan of Beast Signer, a 2008 Pokemon ripoff, ever since I discovered the original creator- Pseudolonewolf. Even after it was declared that the game would never receive any more updates, I still played it a lot- Speedruns, Challenge Runs, and 100% completion runs! And more recently, I've been thinking- if I have the ability to, why not try to bring it back, in limited fashion, at least?
What it does
This is unfortunately not a remake or remodel of the original game. That'd take far too long! Instead, I've made the skeleton for a website and added the barebones for a couple of resources- a beast generator and a damage calculator.
How I built it
This was built with HTML, CSS, Javascript, and a concerning amount of blood, sweat, and tears.
Challenges I ran into
Before I started this project, I had a Python file that would run the actual calculations for the generator and calculator, but as it turns out, HTML and Python do NOT communicate well. Instead, I had to switch over to learning Javascript from scratch.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of & what I learned
Did I mention I've never touched HTML before this? I haven't- this took me out of my comfort zone into a new world of developing webpages. This was all built from scratch- no templates helping me out!
What's next for Beast Signer Rewound
Ideally, I would like to get the Damage Calculator and Beast Generator working to their full potentials. Beyond that, there are other resources that can be made- Beast and Ability dictionaries, a more detailed explanation of the game's storyline, maybe even a resource for creating Beasts that were never in the game in the first place! Whatever it is, I plan to stick to this!
