Inspiration

Mental health issues among Gen Z are rising at an alarming rate. A 2022 survey found that 42% of Gen Z young adults (ages 19-24) have been diagnosed with a mental health condition. While government and school initiatives encourage students to seek counselling, many hesitate due to social stigma, fear, or financial barriers. Despite the increase in counsellors or “mental wellness apps”, many of these services to improve our mental health are either not catered to students or locked behind a paywall, restricting access to people who need it but can not afford it. As Gen Z students ourselves, we understand these struggles firsthand. Inspired by stories of young lives lost to mental health battles, our team is dedicated to making mental wellness free, accessible, and engaging for students.

What it does

Bearvery can revolutionise mental wellness support by embedding it directly in a tool users already engage with daily—their browser. By creating a new default tab experience that encourages mindfulness, productivity, and positivity, Bearvery can seamlessly integrate these essential wellness practices into everyday work/school life. This approach reduces barriers to entry, making mental wellness a habit rather than a chore. Incorporating gamified elements such as daily challenges, rewards for engagement, and community support forums would enhance user retention and create a vibrant, engaged user community. This unique positioning has the potential to transform digital mental wellness engagement, making it accessible, fun, and effective.

How we built it

We developed the foundations of the website using Bolt.new and further improved it with our fine-tunings. Developed with a tech stack that involves React with TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, Supabase and deployed it with Vercel.

Challenges we ran into

Lack of skills Lack of time Lack of money

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Managed to kick start our passion project with Bolt.new!

What we learned

We learnt that building a website from scratch for the first time is not an easy feat, but having a clear purpose and end-goal, along with an incredibly helpful tool like Bolt.new, made the journey significantly smoother.

What's next for Bearvery

We plan to continue expanding the current web app to include more features, such as customising your comPAWnion character, allowing it to reach and appeal to a broader audience. If proven successful locally, we will also be looking at expanding this globally to help as many students as possible, providing them with the care they deserve. Most importantly, we are looking into redesigning the homepage such that it consists of only a single "smart" search bar that enables the user to access all the features we can provide just through text-based prompts (like the MacOS Spotlight search bar).
