Inspiration
Bears Help Kids aims to instill early safety awareness among children by providing visually engaging and interactive resources. We aspire to provide kids with knowledge and skills required for effectively managing through potential hazards and ensuring their safety. According to the California Department of Conservation, our state has anywhere between two to three major earthquakes every year that destroy buildings. We wanted to create a resource hub for children to learn about what they can do to protect themselves.
What it does
It is a static website, providing a collection of helpline resources and interactive games for children to be more aware about safety measures during emergencies. From teaching how to handle earthquakes to imparting knowledge about wildfire safety, the site provides an entertaining and educational resource hub for kids to learn and practice essential disaster response techniques.
How we built it
Using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The work was distributed equally between each member of the team, and we were all communicating about our specific end to make the project as a whole.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges we ran into is layout creation, prompting us to navigate decisions on structure, user navigation, and visual hierarchy. Selecting an appealing color palette, fonts, and imagery required a delicate balance between aesthetics and user experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
An accomplishment that we're proud of is finishing the project in one sitting. This achievement not only showcases our efficiency in tackling tasks but also highlights our capacity for sustained productivity.
What we learned
We gained hands-on experience creating a basic website using fundamental tools introduced in class, including HTML for content structure, CSS for styling, and possibly JavaScript for interactivity.
What's next for Bears Help Kids
The next step in advancing our web development skills involves incorporating a database and implementing a user registration form. This phase introduces us to the realm of dynamic web applications, where user data can be stored and retrieved, enhancing the overall functionality of our site.
